Tendon Pain When Exercising, Running or Repeating Movements
Tendon pain can be frustrating because it often builds gradually, lingers for weeks or months, and flares up when you try to return to exercise, sport or daily activity. If you’re experiencing tendon pain, stiffness, aching or tenderness during or after activity, physiotherapy can help. You may notice pain that feels worse first thing in the morning, warms up as you move, then returns later, or discomfort that flares after running, jumping, lifting, gripping or repetitive work.

Tendinitis vs Tendinopathy vs Tenosynovitis:

-
Tendinitis: Refers to inflammation of a tendon. This term is often used when tendon pain is more sudden or irritated, although many longer-lasting tendon problems are not purely inflammatory.
-
Tendinopathy: The broader term used for tendon pain and changes in tendon function. It is commonly linked to overload, repetitive strain, reduced strength or doing too much too soon. Rehab usually focuses on load management and progressive strengthening.
-
Tenosynovitis: Refers to irritation or inflammation of the sheath that surrounds some tendons. It can cause pain, swelling, stiffness or discomfort with repeated movement, and is commonly seen around areas such as the wrist, hand, ankle or foot.
At X10 Physio we can help identify what may be contributing to your pain and the right treatment approach.

Achilles Tendinopathy
Achilles tendinopathy is a common cause of pain at the back of the ankle or heel. It often develops from running, jumping, sport, hill walking, calf weakness, footwear changes or a sudden increase in training load.

You may notice pain or stiffness in the Achilles tendon first thing in the morning, discomfort at the start of exercise, tenderness when squeezing the tendon, or pain that flares after running, jumping or long periods on your feet.

Physiotherapy for Achilles tendinopathy may include calf strengthening, tendon loading exercises, mobility work, footwear and training advice, and a gradual return-to-running or sport plan.

How X10 Physio can help with your Tendon Pain
At x10 physio, we use a 3-step process to treat tendon pain. I believe recovery is more than just getting rid of pain — it’s about helping you move, perform, and live at your best. Whether you’re an athlete, a busy professional, or simply tired of recurring injuries, I’ll guide you through a proven process that gets you back to doing what you love — stronger than before.
01.
Listen & Identify
We start with your story.
Achilles tendinopathies suck. You know what sucks even more? When rehab doesn’t work. At x10 physio, we don’t like rehab that fails – and most rehab plans fail because not enough time was spent on getting to know you. A boxer, an office worker and a recreational park runner will all need different rehabilitation programs because their lifestyles, sporting demands and goals are different. That’s why at x10 physio, we start with your story.
UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN.
CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT.
PREVENT RE-INJURY.
02.
Assess & Explain
Find the root cause — fast.
Once we understand your life, we will choose specialised physiotherapy tests that will help us understand exactly what type of Achilles pain you have. Using your diagnosis, as well as your story, we will explain back to you exactly what has happened and how to move forward. From here, you will tell us how much you’d like to achieve with your rehabilitation and a tailored treatment plan will be created.
CLARITY BUILDS CONFIDENCE
— AND CONFIDENCE ACCELERATES RECOVERY.
Treat & Rebuild
03.
Recover. Strengthen. Future-proof.
Using a combination of tissue massage, dry needling and exercise prescription, we will begin the recovery process. With Achilles problems, most patients will begin a progressive strengthening program, however our physios will assess how heavy you should start and prescribe exercises that match your current symptoms.
MOVE PAIN-FREE. STAY STRONG.
NEVER LOOK BACK.
This is the X10 Physio Approach — Recover fully. Move freely. Live confidently.
