Shoulder pain when Lifting, Reaching or Sleeping?

If you’re experiencing shoulder pain when lifting your arm, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, exercising or sleeping on your side, physiotherapy can help. You may also notice weakness, stiffness, aching, sharp pain, reduced movement or discomfort that worsens during or after activity.

Common shoulder injuries we treat:

  • Shoulder bursitis: Shoulder bursitis occurs when the small fluid-filled sacs around the shoulder become irritated, often causing pain with lifting, reaching or lying on the affected side. Physiotherapy may include mobility work, strength exercises, load management and education to reduce irritation and improve shoulder function.

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy: Rotator cuff tendinopathy is a common cause of shoulder pain, especially with overhead movements, gym training, throwing sports or repetitive work. Physio can help by improving shoulder strength, tendon capacity, movement control and gradual return to activity.

  • Shoulder impingement-type pain: Some people experience pinching or catching pain when lifting the arm. While the cause can vary, treatment often focuses on improving shoulder blade control, strength, mobility and reducing aggravating movements while the area settles.

  • Shoulder instability: Shoulder instability may feel like the joint is slipping, weak or unreliable, especially during sport, lifting or overhead activity. Rehab usually focuses on strength, control and confidence through progressive shoulder stability exercises.

How X10 Physio can help with your Shoulder Pain

At x10 physio, we use a 3-step process to treat shoulder pain. I believe recovery is more than just getting rid of pain — it’s about helping you move, perform, and live at your best. Whether you’re an athlete, a busy professional, or simply tired of recurring injuries, I’ll guide you through a proven process that gets you back to doing what you love — stronger than before.

01.

Listen & Identify

We start with your story.

Although many people struggle with shoulder pain, the fix in most cases is found in your story. Shoulder pain rarely starts ‘out of nowhere.’ New mothers may experience shoulder pain from having to carry their babies for long periods of time. Someone who just started a desk job may have a chair that’s just a little bit too high. Or, if you like to play too much golf on the weekend (like our head physio Eugene), you might deal with a sore shoulder the next day.

That’s why at x10 physio – we start treating your shoulder first by understanding your story. Once we know you, we move onto step 2.

UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN.
CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT.
PREVENT RE-INJURY.

02.

Assess & Explain

Find the root cause — fast.

Now we start to do ‘physio things.’ Using your story, our physios will use a variety of tests that will help us determine whether you are experiencing shoulder bursitis, rotator cuff tendinopathy, shoulder impingement or shoulder instability. In many cases, shoulder injuries don’t fit ‘neatly’ into a box and we will determine which treamtment methods will work best

After we understand what is happening to your body, our physiotherapists will break down your condition so you understand what is happening, how you got here based off your history, and what is the best pathway moving forward.

Only once you understand what rehab will look like, will we move onto step 3.

CLARITY BUILDS CONFIDENCE
— AND CONFIDENCE ACCELERATES RECOVERY.

Treat & Rebuild

03.

Recover. Strengthen. Future-proof.

In the early stages of your shoulder injury, treatment will revolve around hands on therapy like soft tissue massage, dry needling and gentle exercise to manage your symptoms. Once your symptoms begin to settle, we will progress you to more challenging shoulder strengthening programs to rebuild a pain-free shoulder. Lastly, according to your preference, we can challenge you beyond what you have done before so you have results that last.

MOVE PAIN-FREE. STAY STRONG.
NEVER LOOK BACK.

This is the X10 Physio Approach  Recover fully. Move freely. Live confidently.
